It may be wise, yes if it was stated to be 450+ fps (it could be 480 for all you know). A 130sp spring or equivalent should put you at about the right fps; or a 120sp to be on the safe side (different setups yield different results with the same parts).
30yds is about the length of a swimming pool. All I can say is, if in doubt, don't shoot
And as Ian said, you
need a sidearm of some description.
